What not to do when building an online community

Building an online community can be an important part of managing players as an affiliate. You should be putting a lot of time and effort into creating and nurturing your online spaces into a working community. However, with that, you do need to make sure that you are building this community in the right way.  Here are some of the things you should not do when building your online community.

Advertising guidelines

There are some pretty strict rules in regards to posting on social media. These are set out by the UKGC and the ASA. Before posting on any platform that you might host your online community on, you need to make sure that you are fully compliant with the guidelines that they have set out.

Neglecting one of these can land you in serious trouble. The ASA is very strict about what brands post, and they do check to see that compliance is being met. Do not try to post anything without checking the guidelines behind it first.

Push too much

With a waiting and willing audience, it can be tempting to just push out campaigns and materials as you develop them. However, this does mean that you could be saturating your players’ feeds with your content.

Pushing too much at once could result in them drifting away from you and avoiding your content. Quality over quantity is a must here. If you think that you are pushing too much at once, you might want to consider adjusting your content calendar. Should you have a big campaign that you want to give a lot of attention to, you might have to consider stepping off the gas for a little while with some of your other promotions.

Ignore engagement

Once you have created promotions and other pieces of marketing for your online community platforms, you need to make sure that you are getting the right levels of engagement. You need to make sure that your players are interested in what you have to offer.

The worst thing to do here is to ignore the engagement of these posts. Just because you think that a promotion might be a good idea does not mean that it is going to work in practice. You need to make sure that you are creating content that your players want to engage with. A disengaged community is not going to deliver the results that you need.

To be able to drive conversions, clicks, and other important metrics you need to make sure that you are engaging your online community. A lack of interest shows that you are not quite hitting the mark just yet, and it is something that you should address sooner rather than later.
