West Virginia sports betting revenue continues to increase

The sports betting market in West Virginia has come to experience further growth in four weeks to September 28, with licensed operators reporting a combined revenue of $3.8m for the period.

Punters have wagered a total of $25.6m on sports during these four weeks, which coincided with the start of the National Football League season on September 5, where a total of $21.4m in winnings was reported.

Penn National Gaming’s Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, which in partnership with DraftKings, runs its own sportsbook, has reminded as the market leader in West Virginia by some margin. They have posted $2.6m in revenue from a handle of $17.9m.

Hollywood Casino have enjoyed a particularly successful week in the seven days to September 7, where they have totalled revenue of $1.2m – this is just shy of the state’s $1.3m over the four weeks to August 31.

Meanwhile, the William Hill Sportsbook at Mountaineer Casino has ranked second, with their reported revenue hitting a total of $575,912. Punters here wagered a total of $3.5m.

The Greenbrier private resort saw revenue for the period reach $531,337 after it processed $4.3m in sports bets.

The Delaware North-owned Mardi Gras and Wheeling venues have remained inactive after shuttering sports betting in March amid a dispute with technology partner, Miomni. It was reported here that both venues made minor losses as a result of previously placed bets.

Mardi Gras reported a slight loss of $706.75 for the month. This is mainly due to paying out   $622.75 in winning bets during the week ended September 7. Wheeling made a loss of $195.25 for the month.
