Veteran marketer Doug Scott named as Twitch CMO

Zynga’s former marketing head as its chief, Doug Scott has been snapped up by Twitch, where he replaces former chief marketer Kate Jhaveri, ending the Amazon gaming platform’s three-month stretch without a lead marketer.

While being based in Twitch’s San Francisco office, he is replacing the spot in which his  predecessor left after two years in the role to take up the top marketing job at the NBA.

Twitch was acquired by Amazon for $970m in 2014.

The company then came back advertise the position later that month. The ad’s responsibilities listed owning the “positioning, messaging, branding, segmentation, strategy and creative direction focused on continuing Twitch’s evolution in the ‘multiplayer entertainment’ space”.

Chief operating officer of Twitch, Sara Clemens, said Scott will play “an integral role” in the brand’s goal to reach consumers beyond its endemic audiences.

Sara added: “Doug has deep experience extending brands into new markets across games and entertainment industries, making him the ideal fit to lead Twitch’s marketing strategy.”

Scott comes into the role bringing prior experience in gaming to the position. After working at Electronic Arts for almost six years, he ended his time there with a promotion to vice president, global online product marketing.

After completing stints at companies such as YouTube Music and BandPage, he joined social gaming developer Zynga in 2016.

Scott said: “Twitch is revolutionizing entertainment through its massive and highly engaged community of creators and fan. I could not be more excited to join this incredible team and help to bring Twitch’s unique culture, brand and its passionate community to new audiences and global markets.”

Twitch hired its first executive creative director in April of this year, with Google’s Dan Clancy being brought in as executive vice-president of creator and community experience in July.
