Twitter has launched its most anticipated feature: the edit button

Finally, Twitter’s fabled edit button is here.

The feature that users have been calling for is finally hitting Twitter, confirmed via the official Twitter Twitter page with a post that said “this is an edited Tweet. We’re testing it” with a little note at the bottom that confirms it by saying “Last edited 8.55 am – 09/01/22 – Twitter for iPhone”.

Perhaps prompted by the coercion from Elon Musk and a deal that set a few changes in motion, even if it doesn’t appear to be concluding, Twitter has finally created the edit button. The need for an edit button ranges from simple irritation and typos, which might annoy a user, cause a miscommunication, or look unprofessional to a brand, to influencers and celebrities that are looking to erase or fix a thoughtless comment posted to the world.

And yet, Twitter has always been against the idea, despite ex-CEO Jack Dorsey often saying something to the effect of “Not today, but someday”. Apparently, the team at Twitter have done a severe U-turn on the idea.

In a statement released by Twitter, the company explained: “For this test, Tweets will be able to be edited a few times in the 30 minutes following their publication. Edited Tweets will appear with an icon, timestamp, and label so it’s clear to readers that the original Tweet has been modified. Tapping the label will take viewers to the Tweet’s Edit History, which includes past versions of the Tweet.”
