Twitter adds WhatsApp and LinkedIn sharing options

Twitter has added options for sharing tweets to WhatsApp, in an effort to further expand the range of Tweets shared beyond the platform.

Twitter users in India are among the first to have access to the new feature, as the company looks to tap into WhatsApp’s Indian base of over 450 million users.

Android users will now be able to see a new WhatsApp Share icon at the bottom right of their Tweets, replacing the original Share button.

“Starting today, we are rolling out a new experiment exclusively in India – an important market for us. We are replacing the share icon on Tweets with the WhatsApp icon for the majority of people who use Twitter on Android in the country, so sharing their favourite or noteworthy Tweets is easy even beyond Twitter, making the experience more open, accessible, and holistic for them,” said Twitter India Director and Product Head Shirish Andhare.

Additionally, Twitter has rolled out options for sharing to LinkedIn, Snapchat, and Instagram. These features, accessed via the Share button, are available now on both Android and iOS devices.

The news comes shortly after Twitter began trialing the hotly anticipated Edit button. In a statement regarding the feature, the company detailed that users will have the option to edit Tweets up to 30 minutes after publishing, with edited Tweets clearly labelled with timestamps and edit history.
