Swedish licence revocation

Swedish licence revocation becomes legally binding for Global

The Swedish licence revocation of Global Gaming is now legally binding following a final verdict on an appeal. Gaming regulator Spelinspektionen initially made the decision in June of 2019, but the operator chose to lodge a series of appeals instead.

The decision to revoke the license was made after Spelinspektionen uncovered several serious failings in the operator’s anti-money laundering controls and responsible gambling practices.

Global initially decided to challenge this ruling in the Swedish courts. When this failed, they were allowed to launch a fresh appeal in January of this year with the Administrative Court of Appeal.

However, the court decided to reject this appeal in October. With this verdict, the operator’s board announced that they would accept the revocation.

Global has announced that they have already put extensive measures in place to raise standards across multiple parts of the business, including those highlighted by the revocation. With these in place, they should have a much higher level of regulatory compliance.

This is also unlikely to be the only Swedish licence revocation we shall see in the coming months. A new inquiry has been launched by Sweden’s Minister for Social Security Ardalan Shekarabi. This inquiry seeks to find new ways to block illegal gambling and unregulated casinos from the Swedish markets.

With the revocations of licences and the blockage of unsafe sites, Sweden is determined to create a safe gambling environment for all.
