Svenska Spel launches new Freja eID technology

Svenska Spel, the Sweden-facing gambling operator has now launched Verisec’s Freja eID technology. This comes as part as an effort to enhance its customer identification processes.

After agreeing a deal in May to begin using Freja eID, Svenska Spel has now integrated the solution across its Svenska Spel Tur and at Svenska Spel Sport & Casino platforms.

Customers have previously been referred to a single e-ID, however the new introduction of Freja eID now means that players are no longer locked to a specific login method.

The new laws which have come into effect, launched in Sweden in January. These laws state that licensed operators active in the country are required to use an e-ID to register customers in order to clarify their age and identity.

Verisec’s chief executive Johan Henrikson said: “Most companies that digitise their services put considerable resources on good user experience and to eliminate eventual friction for users who want to access the digital service. Thus, not keeping users locked to a specific sign-in solution is an important step.

“We believe that this is not only positive for the users, we also believe it is a strong competitive factor in that Svenska Spel is the first gaming company with a gaming license that offers its users more than one e-ID.”

On numerous occasions, Svenska Spel has stated its commitment to increasing the protection of its customers. It has been seen this week that , Svenska Spel’s chief executive Patrik Hofbauer declared his support for plans to introduce a ban on select betting markets in Sweden in order to help clamp down on match fixing in sport.

A report has also been published this month by the operator, it suggested player protection measures must now be tailored to different age groups, while also stating  that mandatory limits are more effective than voluntary in ensuring players can gamble safely.
