Sportsbooks prepared for Kansas sports betting launch

Six sportsbooks have been given the green light to launch their services in Kansas, as the state prepares to commence legalised sports betting tomorrow (1 September).

DraftKings, Barstool Sports, BetMGM, Caesars, FanDuel and PointsBet have all secured licences to operate in the state, and have forged partnerships with existing gaming facilities.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to deliver our award-winning products to Kansas sports fans for the 2022 NFL and college football seasons,” said Co-Founder and President of DraftKings North America Matt Kalish.

He continued: “It’s an especially exhilarating time of year, and we are excited for eligible Kansans to be able to get in on all the action through DraftKings’ seamless and responsible sports betting experience.”

Kansas legalised sports betting in May 2022, after Governor Laura Kelly signed Senate Bill 84.

The bill allows for sports betting to be encompassed by the state’s expanded lottery act, and includes sports betting on mobile apps, in casinos and in other venues.

The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission is responsible for overseeing licence approvals and regulating sportbooks in the state.

Initially, operators will be granted a one-year provisional licence, based on past performance in other regions.

Of sports betting revenue generated in the state, 80% will go towards the construction of a new stadium and the development of professional sports.
