Spelinspektionen launches updates to self-exclusion scheme

Sweden’s iGaming regulator, Spelinspektionen, has launched updates to the self-exclusion program Spelpaus.se.

First announced in March, it went live at the end of May. It has been updated to be more user-friendly, and to offer further guidance to anyone who needs to use the platform.

Since its initial launch over three years ago, it is thought that more than 75,000 Swedish users have signed up to self-exclude through it.

Existing users will not be affected by the update. Brands and operators that work with the platform will also find that staying informed about self-excluded players will not be affected.

Camilla Rosenburg, Spelinspektionen director general, said, “If you play too much and for more money than you can afford, it is important to be able to easily and quickly break that pattern and take a break from playing.

“Spelpaus.se does not solve a gambling addiction but can mean that you have time to reflect on your gambling habits and the opportunity to change them for the better or choose not to play again.”

Affiliates that work with Swedish brands and operators should check for updates to any guidance with these new updates. Compliance with self-exclusion and safer gambling policies should always be a must, regardless of the markets an affiliate might work across.
