Tik Tok

Should affiliates be looking at Tik Tok to drive activity?

2020 hasn’t been the year that anyone expected it be and many marketing teams have had to completely change their strategies over the past few months. With most of the population across Europe cooped up indoors, consumers have been trying out new things and switching their attention to alternative social channels, such as Tik Tok.

In many ways, Tik Tok is effective for affiliate marketers hoping to target a new audience. Whether that is through the use of Tik Tok ads or general short video clips, the potential is huge and should not be ignored.

Growth of Tik Tok over lockdown

According to Bloomberg, there are now 17m users spending more than an hour every single day on Tik Tok in the UK. In comparison, users in the USA soared to more than 91m during the pandemic. In fact, more than 100 million Americans are considered active users of this mobile app.

While there are more people considered active users of Facebook (37m) in the UK than Tik Tok, this growing platform is certainly catching the attention of many marketing experts around the world. If you are interested in the demographics, it is worth noting that around 65% of Tik Tok users in the UK are women. This makes this platform suitable for those hoping to target a female market.

It goes without saying that the growth of Tik Tok as a platform has come about as a result of lockdown. In reality, this channel was initially released as a platform back in 2016 but only recently has the number of users started to search. On top of that, older demographics are starting to join in on the fun. This highlights the perfect opportunity for affiliates that much not be wasted.

How can it be used?

As we are sure you are aware, lead generation is an extremely key part of affiliate marketing. There are many ways to work on viral and lead generation but more recently, affiliate marketers and larger brands have been using Tik Tok. One of the main marketing tools that this platform offers is advertising tools.

There are four main paid ad features that can be used by brands and affiliates on this channel right now. These include in-feed videos, brand takeovers, hashtag challenges and branded lenses. Each of these offers something a bit different and can be effective in their own ways. Hashtag challenges can be difficult to master but if they succeed, they could go viral.

Influencer marketing

Influencer marketing is also strong on Tik Tok with some influencers on there now sitting at around 90m followers. The most followed influencers include Charli D’Amelio, Addison Rae and Zach King. These influencers don’t align with all brands, but they certainly show just how effective influencer marketing can be.

Influencers on this channel can be used to promote products and drive traffic to affiliate sites. According to reports, one in three consumers trust the opinions of influencers and this can really help to drive sales. If an influencer collaboration on Tik Tok happens to go viral, the results for your affiliate portal could be incredible.

What to consider

Before building a strategy as an affiliate, it is important to consider the target demographic. Sure, there are more people in their 30’s and 40’s now using Tik Tok regularly, but this could change once the population is no longer cooped up inside of their homes.

The advertising tools on Tik Tok can provide a lot of value to affiliates and so are worth considering. This platform should not be ignored as it has a lot of potential and is growing around the world every single day.
