Operators warned about slot feature by UKGC

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has warned six operators in the country about a slots feature. This allowed players to have a buy-in option and has since been removed by each of the brands in question.

Players were able to wager large amounts for immediate access to bonus features. One game charged £3,000 for this.

Another reminder from the UKGC

The UKGC has sent out a long list of reminders to operators. At the beginning of the month, it released guidelines for operators to follow. This included the mandatory donation to a UK-based gambling charity. However, the commission confirmed with Affiverse that these regulations don’t apply to affiliates.

In its latest warning, operators have been reminded to ensure that their games meet the demanded safety and transparency standards. Moreover, it pointed out two specific needs for remote gambling and software measures. However, it didn’t confirm whether this feature breached either of these.

An active year in UK gambling so far

A range of new measures are coming to the UK gambling market this year, as has already been confirmed by the UKGC. The biggest of these is a near-total ban on credit card gambling, which will be enforced from 14th April. Since then, calls have been made in other European countries to follow suit.

From the end of March, operators will also be required to opt in to GamCare’s self-exclusion scheme. As part of this, all players must be given the choice to join the self-exclusion register. Although neither of these apply to affiliates, there’s a chance that might change in the future.

But affiliates in the UK have also been playing their part to responsible gambling. Recently, BetBlocker – a gambling ads blocker – received its first corporate funding. This came from the casino comparison site, CasinoGuide. After this, CasinoGuide Project Manager Alex Tester referred to the tool as “extremely valuable”.
