Online casinos in New York possible with bill on the table

New York Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. has introduced a bill to the state Senate that would legalize online casino in the state of New York.

The bill, titled Senate Bill S4856 is designed to add and additional amendment to New York’s current racing, pari-mutuel wagering and breeding law, named article 15, that will add iGaming regulation for the state. The amendment would allow for online slots and table games as well as live dealer games.

It goes without saying that this particular US gambling bill will open up a massive market. New York is a huge city that is famously attractive to citizens and tourists. In January of 2023 alone, New York reported a GGR of $149.4 million.

According to iGB North America: “The law would also impose a tax of 30.5% on gross gaming revenue (GGR), which would be deposited into the state lottery fund for educational aid. The state would also distribute $11m from this fund every year to be used for responsible gaming education and treatment purposes.”

Additionally, in January of 2023, New York Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow introduced the House Bill 1380, which would authorize online poker in the state by reclassifying it as a game of skill.
