Onefootball poised for exciting 2018/19 season after bumper World Cup

Global football media platform Onefootball has reported unprecedented user activity over the World Cup, creating multiple records for content consumption and engagement.

During the group stages alone, 15.5 million predictions were made via Onefootball’s match-prediction feature, and interactions increased once the knockout stages started. For the whole tournament a total of 26 million predictions were recognised.

Content stats were similarly impressive, with a whopping 104 articles read every second during the tournament.

These numbers could have even been higher if Brazil & Germany (the firm’s two biggest countries in terms of user base) made it further through the tournament. The previous World Champions Germany and footballing giants Brazil amass over 10 million season active users between them.

Tom Mueller from Berlin-based Onefootball said: “Onefootball has a great understanding into what football fans around the world want, and this allows us to create an in-app experience that increases engagement and time spent in the app.

“We understand that sport fans are keen engage with products that incorporate gamification, so along with high quality content, we have also prioritized the match-prediction feature as a key part of the user experience.”

Onefootball believes the boost in interactions provides a positive prospect for the upcoming domestic season of club football, with users becoming more engaged with what has become the world’s biggest football platform.
