Michigan State Representative Brandt Iden has been presented with the Golden Eagle Award by iGaming industry resource Gambling.com.
Iden was a key figure in the drive to legalise online poker and online casino games towards the end of 2019.
The State Rep worked with both ends of the political spectrum to make regulated online gaming a reality in the Wolverine State.
The award forms part of Gambling.com’s American Gambling Awards, which are expected to return in full next year.
Online casino and poker both came into legality alongside sports betting. Players in the state now have a diverse range of offerings to pick from, with online lottery also regulated.
Michigan’s sports betting market has already gone live.
Gambling.com Group Chief Executive Charles Gillespie shared his thoughts on Iden being given the award, which were as follows.
“Michigan Representative Brandt Iden has been one of the strongest and most vocal pro-gaming legislators in the country, and it was his feat of championing a successful all-encompassing gaming bill into law that truly set him apart over the last year.
“For his successful efforts to bring sports betting and online gaming into the 21st century and set an example for states all over the country, Gambling.com is proud to award an Honorary 2020 Golden Eagle to Representative Iden.”
“A truly fantastic honour”
Iden also expressed his delight at being awarded the Golden Eagle Award. He said the below.
“It is truly a fantastic honor to be the receipt of this year’s honorary Golden Eagle Award and have Michigan’s iGaming policy recognised by Gambling.com.
“I would like to thank my staff, colleagues, the governor of our great state of Michigan and the industry advocates who spent thousands of hours and over four years of hard work helping to make this policy a reality.”
Iden, who is a Republican Party member, serves the 61st District in the Michigan House of Representatives. He was first elected in November 2014.
