The Facebook and Instagram parent company has spent vast sums of money on researching and developing AR and VR tech, with the ultimate goal of realising its Metaverse plans.

This week, Meta published plans detailing how it intends to roll out AR and VR tech in the future.

The company aims to release an updated version of its smart glasses in 2025, with a completed AR glasses product set to hit the market in 2027.

Meta is facing stiff competition in the race to release the first pair of consumer-friendly AR glasses, with both Apple and Snapchat developing their own products.
