Lithuania fines Top Sport… again

Lithuania’s Gambling Supervisory Authority has issued Top Sport with another fine after the company was found to be breaching regulations around CCTV at its retail betting facilities.

The retail sports betting company was fined €15,000 from the European country’s gambling authority due to the “improper installation of digital video recording systems” as a betting and slots casino location in Vilnius. According to the Lithuania Gambling Supervisory Authority, the image quality of the video was too poor making the actions of the employees at the cash desk of the venue indiscernible. To add to the problems, the regulator pointed out that the means in which the video cameras were installed meant it was too hard to see how much money was being paid in and out to customers, which came down to a breach of Article 15, Paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Lithuanian Law on Gambling.

This is not the first fine issued by Lithuania even this year. Top Sport was issued another €15,000 fine for the same reason in just September. It was the latest in a pattern of fines throughout 2022, including €25,000 in May for violating Lithuania’s ban on gambling promotion, and €15,000 in November for allowing a player from outside Lithuania to gamble remotely on the Top Sport website.

Top Sport is expected to appeal the decision.
