Is VR set to revolutionise igaming?

When most people think of VR, they think of the future.
The future is, however, already here.
Ahead of ICE where new technology and games development is showcase, this technological development is fast becoming a game changer. VR allows for an interactive and immersive online gaming experience. It also offers customers the chance to be fully immersed in the gaming experience.
We are curious if VR is going to revolutionise the iGaming world, so we’ve taken a closer look at what’s happening in this space.

What are VR Casinos?

I am placing a focus on casinos in this article, simply because there is a big opportunity for affiliates already in existence here. VR casinos are so detailed in their fully-immersive 3D technology that it’s like walking into a real-life casino room for the player.  Players can pick their seats, use in-game chats to speak to other players and spin on incredibly realistic slot games.  If players want to feel like they are on a night out, they can even go to a virtual entertainment hall and order food and drink. It’s a totally submersive experience and no longer just about the game that is played.
It’s likely that you will already have heard of SlotsMillion before – these guys are a perfect example of a company who have been innovative in their VR approach.  Their casino is based in a game room that is based on the 80th floor of a high-rise building looking onto a futuristic city.
There is an increasing number of iGaming operators exploring the VR world, and instead of making it somewhat gimmicky – want to make it a quality experience for the player like SlotsMillion or VBet who have developed a superior product alongside.
You also have renowned developers such as Microgaming launching VR Roulette using Oculus Rift to test the waters, and NetEnt (who recent’y picked up an AskGamblers Award) creating a VR version of their incredibly popular Gonzo’s Quest slot allowing people to play within the environment of the game.  They showcased this as part of their ICE Totally Gaming campaign only last year.  The big players in the industry are taking this advancement seriously, and it’s essential that affiliates do too.

What’s the Future of VR Casinos?

As they are still somewhat in their infancy – it is a little early to say they are a industry disruptor.  Not too many years ago, we thought that mobile betting was pie in the sky and look how much operators and affiliates focus on this channel now.
Online gamers do have a thirst for new experiences, and this non-traditional approach could be just the thing to satisfy that need.  The beauty of VR is with talented developers; the user can play Blackjack or Poker in any setting they want.
Affiliates should also research land-based casino’s who potentially want to create a virtual reality experience for their brick and mortar casino.  Promoting these as soon as possible is a great way to make your portal an authoritative source of information and that you are knowledgeable about iGaming trends.
