Google rolls out new AR Search features

Google has added a number of new Search features as we approach the holiday season, making extensive augmented reality (AR) technology to create a more immersive and interactive user experience.

Users who are shopping for beauty products will be able to use an AR-driven try-on feature to test out different shades of foundation. This comes as a continuation of existing AR try-on options for products including lipstick and eyeshadow.

According to Google, 60% of online beauty shoppers have decided to not make a purchase because they were unsure about the particular shade and color. This new feature is designed to allow shoppers to make a more informed choice when browsing and purchasing beauty products.

Additionally, shoes and sneakers can now be viewed in AR, giving shoppers a more detailed view of products and footwear they are interested in. Vans, Saucony, and Merrell products can currently be viewed in AR, with more brands to be added in the near future.

Google has also worked to integrate the camera with the search function. Users can take a picture of an item of food and Google will show them where that kind of food is being sold nearby. Maps have also been updated with AR overlays, in an effort to offer further discovery and exploration options.
