France’s ANJ makes player protection a priority

A new strategy has been set out by the French gambling regulator L’Autorité nationale des jeux (ANJ). This new strategy will cover the market for the next three years and it puts player protection high on the priority list. Work on the strategy has already begun with big changes on the way.

Five key pillars set out

The ANJ has set out five pillars that will ensure legal gambling provides significant returns for society. These pillars will also ensure any players who engage in these kinds of activities will be protected from harm.

To add value to the French gambling market, a new framework will be created to guide the behaviour of licensees. Additionally, they will be adding effective deterrents for those who do not follow the rules.

To protect players, they aim to create new player protection measures. This will include mandatory deposit limits to tackle the growing number of problem gamblers in France – a figure which currently stands at 1.4m.

Developing new technology

The French gambling market is also set to be shaken up with a creative approach from the ANJ. They are hoping to be as creative as operators already are in this industry.

A spokesperson from ANJ said: “In order to be attuned to this world, ANJ must integrate this culture of innovation and digital technology, both with respect to the players it regulates and internally, in its operating mode and tools.”

These strategies are set to come into place between 2021 and 2023. During this time, the industry will grow and provide players with a safer space to enjoy their games. Operators and affiliates must be aware of any regulatory changes to ensure they are staying on the right side of the law in France.
