What to do when affiliate applications decline in your program

So, you recently launched your affiliate program and the first few months went well. But now, you’re experiencing a steady decline in new affiliate applications. So, what to you do?

Keeping up appearances is a full-time job! You must be actively marketing and selling your affiliate program wherever you can. That’s what will keep new blood coming in.

In this week’s #AffiliateDriveTime article, Lee-Ann Johnstone identifies what you can do in more depth.

Mind the long-tail

A few weeks back, I gave you a lesson on how to reactivate long-tail affiliates. Here’s that video for you. Refer to it and then figure out how you’ll plan your own affiliate reactivations.

Time moves on and things change for affiliates often. So, don’t discount how doing this periodically can help you stop the incoming leads and activations from slowing down.

Get on a forum or join some affiliate groups

You’d be surprised at who you can meet and connect with online, if you spend a bit of time on forums and in social groups. GPWA is a prime resource for finding new affiliates to partner with. Take a look at the resources they offer and see what might be a good fit.

Start a RAF program

Get your good affiliates to refer others and offer them super affiliate commissions that are attractive. Set aside some time each day to promote your program, too.

Use Twitter More

Recently, we wrote an blog post about the importance of Twitter branding. You’d be surprised at how many affiliates hang out on this channel, too. Twitter is one of the easiest platforms to use and building an engaging audience takes little time. Once you’ve taken that step, you can redirect them to sign up for your program.

Keep things simple. Focus on the channels that make the most sense for your program and budget. With just a little bit of effort, you can see some pretty good results. If you want help with rebooting your program, our audits can be a great way to gain insight you might be missing.
