How to build your affiliate network from scratch

Affiliate marketing has many facets to master, but it is important that you have a good network of contacts that you can draw on for promotions and traffic. Building your affiliate network from scratch is going to be an endeavour, but it is something that has to be done for the wider success of your affiliate brand.

Establish your niche

There are several sources that an affiliate can draw from when trying to create a stable network, but that does not always mean that you are choosing the right one for your niche. You need to make sure that you find your niche as an affiliate marketer so that you are comfortable in your own position first.

From here, you will be able to know the types of markets you should then target to find partners for your network. Finding affiliates within these markets will give you an idea of the audience waiting for you and some of the marketing tactics that could be best employed to reach them.

Follow up queries

You might have made an important connection at a networking event or something related to your industry, or you might have even just tracked down someone who could offer you an interesting opportunity.

Make sure that you do follow up on any of these connections and enquiries that you do make. In the early days of building an affiliate network, you cannot let anything pass you by. If you have something of value to offer a potential partner, you should put it to them. While you have to be careful as to not be pushy, there is nothing to say that you cannot be the one to approach with an offer rather than wait for a potential partner to get back to you.

Have clear expectations

Do you know what you want to achieve with your affiliate network? You need to make sure that you have clear expectations as to what you wish to do with your current partners, and the results that you expect from them. This will often require you to have clear materials and guidance they can draw on to help market your products and services. Active and open communication is a must.

On top of this, you also need to make sure that you are open and willing to add new partners to your affiliate network. Work on streamlining your onboarding process, so that anyone who does join is able to get up and running in as short an amount of time as possible.

Constructing a good affiliate network will always be a marathon and not a sprint. You need to lay the groundwork to be able to attract high-quality connections from your partners, and to build meaningful relationships that can serve you for a long time. Building an affiliate network from scratch is going to take time and effort, but it is something that is worth doing properly the first time so you only have to grow it as you acquire more affiliates.
