Denmark’s Q2 sees an increase in casino revenue

Denmark’s revenue from their regulated online gaming market has increased 6.1 per cent year-on-year to DKK1.73bn (£210.2m/€232.0m/$256.1m) within the second quarter of 2019, with mobile growing in prominence and online casino’s contribution close to overtaking the sports betting revenue.

For three months to 30 June, the total revenue has increased from DKK 1.63bn to DKK 1.73bn. This has been put down to an 18 per cent increase in online casino revenue from from DKK 537m to DKK 634m. Of the online casino revenue, 71.9 per cent came from slots, 11.6 per cent came from roulette and 8.6 per cent from blackjack.

However, sports betting revenue has fallen from DKK 648m in Q2 of 2018 , which did include the latter stages of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, to DKK 635m.

Land-based slot revenue has increased from  DKK 354m to DKK 363m, with 29.6 per cent coming from machines located in restaurants and 70.4 per cent from gaming halls. Land-based casino revenue was up 6.5 per cent year-on-year to DKK 98m.

Mobile revenue exceeded 50 per cent of the total revenue for the first time, at 50.27 per cent, within the three-month period. Land-based operations accounted for 33.4 per cent, while the contribution from desktop play decreased to 16.35 per cent.

For the six months to 30 June, gaming market revenue has increased 5.4 per cent year-on-year to DKK3.34bn.

The largest contributor to Danish gambling revenue during the period was sports betting, where they have brought in DKK 1.25bn, up 3.6 per cent from the previous year.

Meanwhile, online casino revenue has increased from DKK 1.06bn to DKK 1.19 bn, from a 12.4 per cent increase. Slot machine income has increased slightly from DKK 713m to DKK 714bn, with land-based casino revenue declining from DKK 184m to DKK 181m.

49.5 per cent of first half revenue has come from mobile gaming, with 17.26 per cent coming from computers and 33.28 per cent of revenues coming from land-based casinos.

From the country’s online casino revenue, it was seen that 71.7 per cent – DKK 759m – has come from online slots, with 10.9 per cent coming from roulette and 8.6 per cent coming from blackjack.

For slot machines, 74.06 per cent of revenue came from slots which have been located in arcades, while the remaining 24.94 per cent came from slots in restaurants.
