Betsson Group granted Swedish online gaming licence

Betsson Group has been granted a licence to conduct online gaming in Sweden. The licences received today are effective from 1 January 2019 and comprise the brands Betsson, NordicBet and SverigeAutomaten. The firm now holds licences in twelve jurisdictions and pays local betting duties, which is set at 18%.

The group has been offering gaming entertainment to Swedish customers since 1963 and has been a frontrunner  in pushing the development of the Swedish gaming market. The new licence enables competition on equal terms and gives Swedish customers access to the games they desire under a Swedish regulation, which is a positive development for customers, operators and shareholders alike.

“It is good that Sweden opens up the gaming market for free competition in a controlled environment. We look forward to operate on our Swedish home market as a recognised operator on equal terms,” commented Pontus Lindwall, the firm’s CEO.

Betsson continues its 2018 Swedish expansion after becoming the main sponsor and exclusive betting partner to the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) back in August.

With 17 brands, including Betsafe.com, Betsson.com, NordicBet.com and CasinoEuro, offering sportsbook, casino and other games, Betsson Group is one of the world’s largest gaming groups. The firm also runs its own affiliate program, Betsson Group Affiliates.
