Allwyn backed up by Vodafone in National Lottery bid

Allwyn, the new identity for SAZKA’s operations in the UK, has selected telecoms giant Vodafone as its connectivity partner in its bid to win the UK government’s Fourth National Lottery Licence competition.

Tense competition

Allwyn, the new British venture of Czech gambling conglomerate SAZKA Group, is reportedly partnering with telecoms giant Vodafone in the bidding to run the UK’s National Lottery in response to the surprise entrance in the race of Italian firm Sisal earlier this month.

The tender process that was launched last August by the British Gambling Commission, will see the winner holding a National Lottery licence for 10 years from 2023. The Commission is expected to announce its preferred bidder by the end of this year.

Improve lottery retail operations

In a statement, the group noted that Vodafone’s market-leading connectivity and expertise in innovative technologies will be key to improve player protection and will enable the integration of new features to stay ahead of ever-changing customer demands as well as playing a significant role in the National Lottery experience in the UK.

“At Allwyn, as part of SAZKA Group, we make lotteries better so that they can serve as a force for good […]. We often do this by bringing the fun back to lotteries that have lost their spark, while always safeguarding our players – ensuring sustainable growth and more money to good causes along the way”, said Allwyn’s bid chair Sir Keith Mills.

“We have provided market-leading connectivity in the UK for more than 30 years, and we understand the technologies that enable the best, most cutting-edge experiences. With our innovative portfolio of 4G, 5G, IoT and fixed connectivity solutions, we can ensure in-app, online and retail journeys are simple and reliable for customers across the UK”,  said Anne Sheehan, Business Director of Vodafone UK.
